Are you looking for monthly to do list ideas to complete every month? I absolutely love lists and creating them so I’ve compiled 20 monthly to-do list ideas for you.
I try as hard as I can to organize my monthly tasks in a list to accomplish before the month starts. However, I’ve noticed when I include a few personal and faith-based tasks, I’m more likely to actually check my list off one by one.

To me, there’s nothing better than starting over at the beginning of a new month. It’s a new month!
That means new beginnings and new chances to grow. Being a very busy work from home mom, I thrive on creating my own schedules that include managing my workload and my home life, since I do homeschool my littles.
Let’s be honest, being a blogger includes a lot of writing, planning, and scheduling. Not to mention all the other website tech stuff it comes with.
Mrsplanahead’s printables shop is now open.
When I first started Mrsplanahead, I started it with my love of writing. As many of you now know by now, my husband wanted me to start my website and I took a leap of faith in doing so.
Along with my love of writing came along with my love of planning. Very soon I started creating my own inserts for my planner and I love them!
Mrsplanahead’s printables shop is filled with useful planner printables you can use functionally. They are mostly a minimalist style of planning.
I have used my daily layouts frequently and I am excited to say my self-care insert bundle will be out very soon! These planner inserts can help you stay productive and accomplish ALL of your goals!

20 monthly to-do list ideas.
- Write a monthly prayer out to God.
The first thing I like to do before starting out a month is to write a prayer out to God. I like to pray for health, happiness, wealth, and safety.
My prayers are written in my bullet journal that I use as a planner. A little further down, there’s a freebie for a weekly review and weekly prayer!
Praying for my whole entire family one by one is what I like to get done at the beginning of the month. Life is too short not to pray for your loved ones.
God protects my family and me and I like to say a monthly prayer over my family, praying that God blesses them and protects them. This is always a priority to me because I could try to plan everything in my life and still, God decides what happens.
Placing all of my faith in God every month and praying is the most important thing to do for me, in my life. Maybe you’d like to give it a try if you haven’t already.
- Write out your intentions for the month.
Writing out your intentions for the month is extremely therapeutic. What are your intentions for the month?
Are there any areas that you are struggling with and want to change this month? It really helps to write them down and get a visual of what you want to do this month and how you’re feeling.
Planner inserts are necessary to keep your life organized!
I finally have opened up my printables shop, mrsplanahead’s printables. It’s filled with amazing printables to help your everyday planning needs.
My planning inserts are pretty chic and minimalistic. Because of my love of planning, I couldn’t resist creating tons of printables!
I truly hope you like them and use them as much as I do! My favorite so far is my daily on two pages.
The planner I use is personal size rings but I also have other sizes available in my shop!
Monthly to-do lists should include goals.
- Goals that you’d like to accomplish this month.
Honestly, when making this list I do include a lot of personal and work-related things. Something on the list could be something so simple like family photos you’d like to get done and finally framed.
For work, it’s usually a goal I’d like to accomplish, like a certain number of sessions I’d like to reach before a certain time frame. As for personal, I usually look at my weekly reviews from the month prior and see what I need to work on.
Usually, it has to do with being more patient or helping one of my children with something they need help with. I think this makes monthly goals a lot more personal and makes me want to accomplish them even more.
Every month I like to clean out my desk area.
- Clean out your office desk space.
A messy desk space doesn’t allow me to be productive. However, I don’t usually work from my desk but my husband does.
When I am blogging or even editing, I’m usually on the couch because I’m also playing with my children. Then I usually edit and create graphics at night from the bed.
Having a messy desk area isn’t productive, so make sure you make the area you work from comfortably. It has to fit your needs so you can get more done and accomplished.
- Clean out your laptop and phone memory space.
Do you ever look at your phone and realized it’s completely cluttered? Often that happens with my MacBook, mostly because of all the pins I am constantly creating.
It’s important to clean out your memory space so that you don’t feel too overwhelmed. I think once a month is great timing.
More ideas for monthly to-do lists.
- Clean at least one room spotless.
- Stock up on supplies you are low on for home.
Stocking up on supplies at the start of the month is always a good idea. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to not be organized.
Honestly, I hate going to the store on a last-minute run because I forgot to list it earlier on. That’s why whenever we are out of something, I jot it down.
I always cross off items when I get them and whatever is leftover, I push it over to my monthly list. It’s always a good idea to be prepared.
- Set your monthly budget.
Always set up a monthly budget for yourself in order to be successful with your finances. Make sure you have a list of when your bills are due.
There are even apps out there that keep track for you. Also, make sure you’re keeping track of how much you spend.
Set yourself a spending budget in order to be able to put away more for your savings account. You never know when you’ll have an emergency come up and it’s always better to be prepared, rather than not.
Stay productive monthly in order to be more successful.
- Deep clean the kitchen.
- Clean the windows and dust furniture.
- Write down any birthdays coming up and get gifts ahead of time so you don’t forget.
This is definitely a helpful monthly tip. I have a large family and there’s always a birthday right around the corner.
It will make your busy life easier getting gifts ready ahead of time and keeping track of upcoming birthdays. You don’t want to forget an important birthday!
- If there are any holidays or parties coming up for the month make a list of what you need to buy.
There are major holidays my family enjoys celebrating, that being Christmas especially. Lists need to be made ahead of time for this holiday, such as a gift list and supply list of decorations and events we want to go to.
Making lists ahead of time for holidays that are important to you and your loved ones helps you stay prepared and create happy memories. Last-minute planning really frays my nerves!
What I love to include with my planner system are my favorite highlighters I always use, washi tape, and this must-have planner pouch that’s come in handy. My kids are always grabbing my planner supplies so I am so happy that I have this pouch (it keeps them from getting into my precious planner supplies!)
Planning at the beginning of the month is a smart idea.
- Make a monthly menu and plan out your grocery list for the month.
My family is very picky about the meals I make them. Sometimes, I go around and ask everyone what they want for dinner ahead of time.
For my meal planning, I use these notepads constantly. Often I will tear the paper out and put it in the back of my planner to keep in handy.
Some nights dinner doesn’t go as planned but it still helps to make the shopping list ahead of time. We use coupons too, digital and that comes in the mail to save money.
- Look over your planner for any scheduled appointments and reschedule if you need to.
- Plan out any work-related projects and set reminders to complete on time.
I do have a separate planner for my work-related tasks. My planner system includes two planners, one for home and one for work.
Since I am a blogger, I do need to plan out my work tasks every month. It does change at times, but it’s usually the same format.
Still, there are many work-related projects that need to be out on time. Make sure you plan your work-related projects out to complete these on time.
I love my personal size work planner. It’s my workhorse and I create my own work inserts to maximize productivity to help my website be successful.
Personal monthly planning can help keep you on track and happy.
- Plan date nights for the month for you and your significant other so that they aren’t forgotten.
To me, making monthly to-do lists do NOT need to be all work and cleaning related. I tried doing this many times in the past and have found this to be unsuccessful.
I’m really not sure why but I do believe it just didn’t capture my attention. I know that work is essential and so are cleaning tasks, but I cherish my loved ones more, and I don’t want that to come in the way of my personal relationships.
So, I do recommend adding a bit of a personal touch to your monthly to-do lists for your mental health. In order to be the best productive version of yourself, I do believe you need to take care of yourself and your personal life.
Taking care of my marriage is important to me and so is planning monthly dates with my spouse. We mostly have date nights in even more now than ever.
Decluttering is good to do every month.
- Go through your closet and everyone’s closet to donate old clothes and get rid of clothes you really don’t need.
- Go through the home and get rid of or donate any items you do not need.
- Pick a new read for the month.
- Set up your bucket list for the month of fun things to do.
I love bucket lists and I enjoy printing them out to decorate my planner. My favorite is the bucket list ideas for my daughter and I.
Bucket lists are fun and something to look forward to. Rather than have all work-related tasks, try mixing something fun to look forward to and personal things too.
Having a monthly to-do list is important in order to be prepared and accomplish the most you can. However, adding a bit of your personal touch to it can never be a bad thing.
I hope this blog post has inspired you to get everything you need to get done for the month and helped you create the best list possible for the upcoming month.
