50 things to do when bored

Being inside for more than a few days can become pretty boring. But what if I told you there were 50 things you can do when bored at home that is productive and interesting?

I find it better to be productive in life and have things to do. One thing I dislike is having too much time on my hands with no projects to fill.

Being home doesn’t need to be boring, but I do feel like staying productive daily SHOULD be on the agenda. Face it, it’s not healthy when home, day after day to NOT be productive.

If you’re in your pajamas every day, not getting anything done, it can mess with your mental health. In order to be productive from home, you need to make a list and follow through with it.

Something I always use daily is my planners. For work, I use my black personal Filofax and for everything else, I use my pink moterm personal size rings.

I like to be at home a lot. What can I say, I am just a homebody. So much though, that I’m a work from home mom and I homeschool my kiddos.

Being home a lot isn’t anything that gives me anxiety or overwhelms me. Even so, you can’t get too comfortable at home day after day.

It becomes boring to just be in your jammies daily and not do anything. Honestly, if I’m not getting anything accomplished then I do tend to get unhappy.

I like to have a to-do list daily of things that are work-related and home-related that I need to get done. This helps me to feel productive even when I’m home day after day.

Switch up your normal routine weekly.

Trust me when I say, I do not like change at all. However, it’s important to switch up your routine and do something different daily, especially when you are home so much more than usual.

I’ve done the same routine for over a year once and I even got sick of it. Even if it’s just once a week, add something new to your routine and embrace a little change.

You can try adding something new to your weekly menu that you don’t usually eat, tackling a new work project that you’ve been putting off, or trying a new craft. Don’t do the same workout video, day after day.

You need a variety in your life to keep things interesting. Being at home all day can really affect your mental health if you aren’t doing it right.

I know that it affects me when I don’t have anything to look forward to daily. This doesn’t even have to be about you.

I plan fun activities to do with my children all the time and that makes me happy too. You don’t need to just plan about you all of the time, you can include your loved ones.

Try out new workout routines or videos. When you are trying something new and switching things up, you have something to look forward to the next day.

I created this planner insert because every single week I like to sit down and reflect on the week that just flew on by. This insert can be printed double-sided on your printer settings.

There’s a place to write your weekly prayer and on the other side a place to review your week. To me, I find it helpful to review my weeks so that I know what I need to change or do more of.

Exercising, eating right, and enough sleep is key.

Truly, the last thing I get is bored at home because I am always busy with my kids. Still, being indoors can get to me and throw me off.

Rather than let that happen, I tried to think of new things to add to my routine to keep things interesting. Even though the girls and I are home the majority of our time lately, I make sure they do at least an hour of exercise and an hour of a fun activity.

Exercising is so important to do while at home and it helps you stay in shape. One thing I’ve noticed is if I don’t work out, my sleep schedule will be thrown off because I’m not tired enough.

I use this fitness watch to keep track of the calories I burn and these workout bras for comfort. Working out helps me to not stress so much.

When my sleep schedule is thrown off, I find it very difficult to have the energy to accomplish all of my daily tasks and get my work done. Getting enough sleep is important and staying healthy is too.

It can become easy being home so much to get caught up in a cycle where you aren’t holding yourself accountable. Make sure to jot down everything you want to get done in your planner so that you don’t forget.

More of 50 things to do when bored.

It’s important to stay busy when home a lot. I know this isn’t the most fun task ever, but it’s so worth it. Getting used to keeping myself busy has helped me stay productive and make money from home too.

Staying happy at home is good for your mental health, helps you save money, and you can even accomplish more things. Don’t forget to include fun things in your daily lists because life can’t be all about work.

For me, it’s so easy to confuse blogging for fun. Still, it’s important to unplug and focus on yourself for a change, not the blog.

That’s a message to all my busy bloggers out there, who can’t seem to stop working! Even so, make time for your family, your health, and yourself.

Make time for God and for prayer. Just remember that it is healthy to try to include health, mental health, faith, work, and home into your routine.

  • Organize your desk.
  • Pray for an hour.
  • Bake cupcakes.
  • Decorate a cake.
  • Complete a puzzle.
  • Binge watch a favorite television show.
  • Draw.
  • Paint.
  • Make a card for future birthdays and events coming up.

More of 50 things to do when bored.

Even though I’m a work from home mom, I still believe in self-care. Every day I do my makeup, brush my hair, and change into my “work” clothes, even though I’m just at home.

To me, that’s self-care. It’s so easy when working from home, to just stay in your pajamas and forget to get ready for the day. Even though it’s easy, it’s not a good idea.

When you don’t get ready, it’s likely that you’re not going to feel good about yourself while you’re working hard. If you’re at home most of the day, you’re not heading out to go work.

You’re not talking to co-workers, you are home alone, and working most of the time. It’s easy to forget to get dressed and pretty yourself up.

Remember to take care of yourself, drink plenty of water, and eat healthily. That way you can feel your best in order to do your best, from home.

  • Video call a friend.
  • Do a journal entry with a list of these helpful journal prompts of gratitude.
  • Write a reflection about yourself and any areas you want to improve on.
  • Text message a friend.
  • Create an Etsy shop! That’s always new and exciting.

More things to do when bored.

Have you found any things you want to get done now? Let me know in the comments down below.

When I’m bored at home, my most favorite thing to do is work on my blog. It’s not just about working on the writing, but so much more.

When blogging you can work on promoting your blog post, finding ways to increase your traffic, and build up your subscriber list. Blogging can be so much fun too!

You don’t just blog though, you can also create digital products. There are so many free and valuable Youtube tutorials on how to do just that. You should check them out!

  • Create a digital product.
  • Try a dance video for an hour.
  • Apply a face mask or make your own.
  • Deep clean the bathroom.
  • Sort through old clothes and donate them.
  • Read the Bible and take notes.
  • Replace old light bulbs.
  • Write out your monthly goals.
  • Try a new makeup look.

Now is a good time to catch up on your planner.

My favorite hobby is planning. Currently, I have two separate planners that I use differently.

One is for my personal and home use and the other is for just work. It really helps to keep those two separated.

Planning is my favorite way to keep focused and accomplish my goals. Not just that, but it is therapeutic to me. Whenever I plan, some of my worries disappear once they are down on paper.

That’s why I love to plan and also decorate my planner with beautiful weekly layouts and monthlies. Do whatever keeps you happy and focused.

  • Decorate your planner.
  • Give yourself a makeover.
  • Declutter old paperwork.
  • Declutter your computer (I really need to do this! Seriously, on my to-do list but so time-consuming!)
  • Menu Plan for the whole entire month.
  • Make your grocery list also.
  • Budget for the month.
  • Dust furniture.

The last of the 50 things to do when bored.

It’s important to keep your home clean and organized, especially when home for a long time. This will keep your energy light and focused, instead of having a bunch of clutter around you while you’re attempting to be productive.

Make sure you are also doing things that are keeping you positive and happy. Take some time to do your hobbies and crafts. Invest time in yourself for yourself.

  • Throw away old stuff.
  • Declutter your home.
  • Write a book.
  • Do a yoga video for an hour.
  • Knit a scarf for a loved one.
  • You can also knit a baby blanket as a gift for a baby shower coming up.
  • Knit mittens as an early Christmas gift.
  • Comment on favorite articles and blog posts.

Takeaways and what’s next.

I truly hope these 50 ideas were super helpful to you and encouraged you. Hopefully, this post was motivating and you have new ideas right now on what to do when bored!

Include some time for prayer and don’t forget to talk to God. He misses you! Too often, we forget that He’s waiting to hear from us.

Coming up on mrsplanahead is more mom-related content. I’m looking forward to creating more posts on homeschooling, faith, and working from home tips.

I love blogging and working on promotion for my blog, but I’m eager to start creating new content. That’s what I’ll be working on for the next month or so.

There are no new books that I’m currently working on, however, I am excited to announce that I opened up my new Etsy shop. So, in addition to more frequent posts, I will be creating more digital products.

I’m excited about the future and I have a whole list of products I want to get out within the next two months. Seriously, you’re missing out if you haven’t joined in on this blogging world!

Even if it’s not for you, make sure you’re subscribed to receive first notice when my new digital products are available to purchase and when new blog posts are released.

Don’t lose faith or hope in Him and keep Him first. I pray you are all safe and healthy,

Until next time,
